Jo Beltre
Although Jo initially approached Buddhism as a philosopher and student of ideas, it was a major life change over twenty years ago that deepened her personal understanding of impermanence and non-attachment, and solidified her commitment to the Buddhist path.
After moving back to New Hampshire in 2011, Jo attended a beginning Buddhism class at Aryaloka. Hearing Amala teach conditioned co-production was a pivotal moment, and she became a mitra later that year. In 2020, she traveled through India with fellow Triratna practitioners, then returned to a world changed by the pandemic. This experience shaped her practice and, in part, led her to request ordination.
In addition to her Buddhist practice and service to the Aryaloka community, Jo works as a physician and brings to the Board her perspective on health, compassion, and care. She lives on the Seacoast of New Hampshire with her husband and their two teenagers. She serves on the Aryaloka Board out of deep love and gratitude for her sangha, and for the teachings and guidance that have supported her life and practice over the years. In her role, she hopes to further Aryaloka’s mission by sharing the Dharma with integrity and inspiration, and encouraging others in the wider community to explore Buddhist practice for the benefit of all beings.
