A Message from Singhasuri - Volunteers Greatly Needed at Aryaloka
Volunteering is a Great way to Make Friends, Build Community and Help Others!
Many in our sangha are deeply concerned with what is happening in our local communities and communities around the US. As individual Buddhists who are well grounded in principles of generosity and kindness, we are well situated to respond to difficult times with compassionate action.
What do you give someone who is looking for deeper meaning in their life? What do you give someone who is interested in learning how to meditate, or to practice mindfulness more fully? What do you give someone who intentionally has few possessions and would rather not acquire more?
Aryaloka is generating green energy!
Last week, Aryaloka’s new 17.835 kW solar array began generating clean, renewable electricity. Designed and installed by 603 Solar, a locally owned and operated company based in Exeter, NH, the array is expected to produce more than 100% of the electricity used by the domes.
The arts have been a part of Aryaloka over the years with many art shows and art’s nights held in the yoga room. The current exhibition showcases art from Aryaloka’s collection and posters from a selection of art exhibitions held at Aryaloka in the past.
The exhibition can be viewed on Tuesdays between 5pm and 6:30pm or while attending our weekly Tuesday Friends’ Evening at 6:45pm. All other viewings can be arranged by appointment by emailing info@aryaloka.org .
Food insecurity is a reality and if SNAP resources are not available, people will be relying on other means such as food banks, community fridges, friends and family etc in order to access food. Please look out for each other in the sangha, and if you are in need of help, please let your friends know. We encourage sangha members to donate to local food banks.
Here are some local food resources in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. Please check out their websites for info on how to access food and what to donate.
Phase II of Aryaloka’s Energy Initiative has Started!
If you were at Aryaloka this summer, you will have experienced the cool comfort inside due to Aryaloka’s new heating and cooling system. Not only has the new system improved the indoor climate in both domes, Aryaloka is achieving significant energy savings and efficiency.
Reviving the Prison Dharma Group in Concord
Susan D and Bodhipaksa are looking for people interested in joining them in restarting the Buddhist group in the men’s prison in Concord, NH.
The group flourished in the prison until the pandemic hit, putting an end to activities there. While moves had been made in the past to restart the group, the prison did not seem to be receptive. But now the time appears to be right for a resumption of activities.
