Sangha Day! Nov 19, 10-4

Sangha day is an annual day on the Buddhist calendar to celebrate our spiritual community.

Having recently installed a donated antique statue (or rupa) of a dakini outside near the stupa, the theme of this year’s sangha day will expand on the theme of the Dakini. We will celebrate this day honoring spiritual community (or sangha) by discovering and engaging with our highest levels of communication. We will do this by invoking the figure of the esoteric sangha-refuge: the Dakini!

"The Dakini is that part of the Sangha with which we have a real living spiritual contact, and the Dakini Refuge is therefore the esoteric form of the Sangha Refuge…What the Dakini really represents is the higher, more refined emotional side of one's own being. That's what the beautiful figure of the Dakini represents. The Dakini represents friendliness, befriending. The Dakini is compassion. The Dakini is sympathetic joy. The Dakini is peace and tranquility. The Dakini is faith and devotion. And all these, higher, more refined, more spiritual, positive emotions are to be developed within oneself. [This] means that you cannot go for Refuge to the Sangha, to the Dakini, unless you have your own Dakini within... within the context of the spiritual community, the spiritual fellowship, our communication with one another is through our own higher emotional natures, or with the help of our own higher emotional natures." Urgyen Sangharakshita

We will explore how we contact our ‘dakini within’ through meditation, play and ritual — through our direct experience.

The "Dakini guides us to experience or to understand ourselves, our environment, and the whole world; with our ever-fresh Dakini eyes inspiring us for freedom and confidence, she always brings us back to our direct experience." Choying Khandro

All are welcome! This event is free (donations appreciated). Please bring a vegetarian dish to share in the pot-luck lunch.
