For the remainder of this year we will be exploring the importance of sangha or Buddhist spiritual community, and the social and political implications of the Buddha’s teaching.

The Three Jewels, or Three Refuges as they are also known, represent the core values of the Buddhist approach to spiritual life. They include the Buddha as the ideal of human Enlightenment; the Dharma as the truth and the path to that Enlightenment, and the Sangha as both the community of those who have realized the path, and those who support each other in doing so.

Sangha and spiritual friendship are key emphases of the Triratna Buddhist Community. We benefit and are supported by a sense of community. And, our sanghas around the world have an impact on the larger community around them. Our friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, fellow students, fellow activists etc, all benefit from our individual and collective practices as Buddhists. There are also ways in which we can make that impact more intentional, ways in which we can work to lessen the suffering in the world.

Utilizing material from ‘The Essential Sangharakshita’ and more, we will explore some of these issues and support each other through the coming election and beyond.

All are welcome to our weekly gathering which includes led meditation, a short talk and discussion. These supportive and friendly community evenings are perfect for getting started with meditation and Buddhism, or for going deeper in your practice. This is a wonderful way to make friends and to explore deeper meaning in one’s life.
